Maintenance Technician – Level 1 (Entry-Level)

The Maintenance Technician Level 1 plays an important entry-level role by supporting senior technicians and helping maintain safe, reliable, and efficient facility and production floor operations. Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician Level 1 is responsible for supporting Level 2 and Level 3 technicians in maintaining data center infrastructure and production floor systems. This role focuses on basic preventive maintenance, general facility upkeep, housekeeping, inspections, and documentation. The position requires strict adherence to safety policies—including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and NFPA 70E—and emphasizes learning foundational electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and automation systems through hands-on exposure.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC & Cooling Support
- Assist with preventive maintenance on air handlers, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, and exhaust systems
- Replace air filters, wash coils, check belt tension, and perform basic lubrication tasks
General Facilities Maintenance
- Perform basic facility repairs such as painting, lighting replacement, door hardware fixes, and minor carpentry
- Assist with assembly and setup of server racks, containment aisles, workbenches, and office or production furniture
Inspections & Rounds
- Conduct daily equipment rounds to record gauge readings, temperatures, and fluid levels on generators, compressors, pumps, and chillers
- Identify and report abnormal conditions to senior technicians
Automation & Production Support
- Assist with clearing minor conveyor or conveyance jams
- Clean sensors and photo-eyes to support reliable automation operation
Safety & Housekeeping
- Maintain 5S standards in shops, electrical rooms, UPS/generator rooms, and mechanical spaces
- Follow all PPE requirements, LOTO procedures, and electrical safety boundaries (120–480 VAC awareness)
- Learn and obtain certifications for forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, and aerial lifts
Qualifications
- Basic familiarity with hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and ratchets
- Willingness and ability to learn electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and automation fundamentals
- Ability to follow SOPs, safety policies, and work instructions
- Basic computer skills for CMMS work order entry and documentation
- Physical ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs
Experience
- 0–2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, mechanical trades, or a related field
